Slimer is a fictional character from the Ghostbusters franchise. He first appeared in the 1984 film, Ghostbusters, and subsequently featured prominently in the animated television series, The Real Ghostbusters, and its various spin-offs and sequels.

Described as a green, amorphous blob ghost, Slimer is known for his insatiable appetite and mischievous behavior. In the original film, he's encountered at the Sedgewick Hotel where he is terrorizing the guests. He's classified by the Ghostbusters as a Class Five Full Roaming Vapor, a designation for particularly troublesome apparitions.

Despite his initial role as an antagonist, Slimer becomes a friendly, albeit gluttonous, companion to the Ghostbusters, particularly Peter Venkman in the animated series. He provides comic relief and occasionally assists the team in capturing other ghosts. He is a recognizable symbol of the franchise.
